About Donna Wyatt
Donna Wyatt is from Corbin, Kentucky a small town outside of Lexington. She is the mother of 2 grown children and was diagnosed with Parry-Romberg Syndrome soon after the birth of her second child. Over the past 20 years, she has been helpless to the progressive loss of tissue on the left side of her face.
Parry-Romberg Syndrome is a rare disease with unknown origin. It affects women three times more often then men. While this disease is not fatal, it can cause severe neurological complications. Contributing to the disease are the psychological social issues. Donna has had to endure the stares, questions, and disturbing remarks of others. In Donna’s words, “I have become so self-conscious about myself. I want so much to move beyond this, but I live with this everyday and it’s so hard to be
gaped at out in public and not be affected by this.”
There is hope for Donna to experience an improved appearance and healthier self-concept through facial reconstructive surgery using a microvascular approach with tissue transfer. The surgery is costly and Donna is uninsured. Our organization, Parry-Romberg Syndrome Resource, Inc. hopes that you will assist our team of marathon runners as they raise money to help finance Donna’s surgery.
