Case Report 2 - Teenage Onset of Parry-Romberg Syndrome
Initial Symptoms: Between ages 13-16 a dark patch developed on the left side of the face in lip and chin area. Patient recalls a dent on the top right side of the skull (en coup de sabre) which was evident for years prior to the discoloring on the face. The depressed area in the skull became bald throughout the teen years. The progression of symptoms included thinning of the corner of the mouth, lips, and area around the eye (all left side of face). A CT Scan revealed lost bone density around the left eye and bone grafts from the patient’s skull were used to rebuild the eye socket. Patient was also diagnosed with Lupus during the teen years.
Medications tried: Patient has undergone a free flap transfer and fat injections to restore facial symmetry, but has not taken medications specifically prescribed for Parry-Romberg Syndrome.
Most recently, as an adult, patient complained of severe headaches which led to an MRI revealing 3 brain lesions on right side of head.
