Case Report 5 - 55 year old woman with onset at age 7

Parry Romberg Syndrome Case Report 5Age of Onset:  7 years old

Initial symptoms:  One-sided vision problems and fainting spells.  Fainting spells disappeared over time, but vision problems progressed.  A tooth on the affected side never fully developed.  Two moderate head injuries had occurred prior to these symptoms.

Progressive symptoms:  By age 20, oral and ophthalmic Prednisone was prescribed for failing vision with no noticeable benefit.  Around age 25, a mild dent, en coup de sabre became evident.  One of eye pupils appeared more dilated than the other.  Affected eye had decreased to measured pressure of 4.  Through examination by eye doctor, a diagnosis of Parry-Romberg Syndrome was made.  After 3 pregnancies, each resulted in greater progression of en coup de sabre with deeper, wider, and longer indentation.

Patient adds that affected eye is perpetually irritated but has not experienced any headaches.
